How to Prove US Views for Clipping Campaign Payouts (The 40% Rule)

If you clip for paid campaigns, you’ve probably seen a rule like this in a brief: “At least 40% of your views must come from the US. Submit a screen recording of your account analytics showing the country breakdown. Clips under 40% US do not get paid.” It’s becoming standard, and it catches clippers out. The views are real, the clip did well, and then the payout stalls because the proof is missing, blurry, or a screenshot when the campaign asked for a recording.

This guide covers why campaigns ask for it, what a recording that passes review looks like, and the fastest way to make one without your phone’s notifications and status bar all over it.

Why campaigns care where your views come from

A campaign budget is really a budget for a particular audience. Many brands sell mainly to US customers, and views from other countries are cheaper to get and worth less to them. Without a rule, a campaign that pays a flat rate per thousand views attracts views from wherever they’re cheapest. A minimum US share, often 40%, keeps payouts tied to the audience the brand is paying for.

Screenshots are easy to edit, so campaigns ask for a screen recording: a continuous capture of you navigating your own analytics is much harder to fake. If the recording is missing or the numbers can’t be read, the safe move for the reviewer is to not pay.

What reviewers want to see

Briefs differ, so always follow the campaign’s exact wording. Most reviewers are looking for the same few things, in one unbroken take:

  1. Your account. Start on your profile or account page so the handle is visible. That ties the analytics to the account that posted the clip.
  2. The specific clip. Open the post you’re submitting, the same one as your submission link.
  3. The country breakdown. Go to the audience or viewer-location section for that post and stay there for a few seconds, so the US percentage is clearly readable.
  4. No cuts. Don’t trim or splice the recording. Gaps look like editing, and edited proof gets rejected.

Why phone recordings cause problems

Most clippers reach for their phone’s screen recorder. It works, but it causes three avoidable problems: notifications and banners pop up mid-recording (sometimes with private messages), tiny analytics text gets compressed into an unreadable blur, and the files are often too big for a campaign’s upload form. Reviewers handle hundreds of these, so an unclear one tends to get put aside.

A cleaner way: record just the analytics tab

Most platforms show creator analytics on the web as well as in the app. Open them in Chrome or Edge on a computer and you can record only that browser tab with Scrollify’s Record a Tab:

  1. Sign in to your platform’s analytics in one tab.
  2. In Scrollify, open Record a Tab, choose MP4, and start. Your browser’s own sharing dialog asks which tab to share. Pick the analytics tab.
  3. Click from your profile to the clip to the country breakdown, in one take. Hold on the breakdown for a few seconds.
  4. Hit stop. Scrollify converts the recording to MP4 and puts it in your library, ready to upload.

Scrollify never sees your login. You sign in to the platform yourself, and the browser only shares the tab you pick, only while you’re recording. Scrollify just converts the video and doesn’t change what’s in it.

Keep a proof library

Every recording you make lands in your Scrollify library with a date, so you can find it again if a campaign re-checks a payout weeks later. Some clippers record proof for every clip once it passes the view threshold, then submit only the ones a campaign asks for.

Make the clips in the same place

If you clip long-form content you have the rights to use, Video to Clips finds the busiest 10–15 second moments of an upload by scoring cuts, motion and loudness. It then crops them to 9:16 and lets you add your own on-screen text, which you can restyle and re-render as often as you like. Every free account gets 3 clip jobs to try it.

Be honest with the numbers

A recording proves what your analytics say. It doesn’t change them. If a clip’s US share is under the bar, no recording will qualify it, and editing analytics is a quick way to get banned from a campaign network. Use the country data to learn instead: which hooks, posting times and topics pull a US audience, and do more of those.

Try it on your next payout

Record a Tab works on the free plan. Create a free account, open your analytics in another tab and record your first proof in about a minute. Read more on the analytics proof page or the Scrollify for Clippers page.
